To obtain a special visual effect, painters may appeal to what is technically known as glaze, which is a transparent medium intermediating painted surface and public's eye. Glazing has been used for many centuries in painting, irrespective of artistic concept, more like a general trend. Applying a glaze to work, however, may change color cast, texture and overall ambiance.
Wall glazing is a strongly related technique revealing itself as a completely covered in paint surface with more or less visible traces of texture. Usually, the final appearance resembles what specialists call French brush, rag rolling, parchment or striae. Most appropriate paints for wall glazing are oil or water-based solutions, in combination with kerosene or linseed oil, depending on the desired artistic concept.
There is also important to consider the specific time each of the combinations takes to dry and if it allows overlaps of color.
