Digital Painting

Technological progresses have included painting over the years creating what is generically called computer painting.

As the name suggests it, it refers to the artistic action performed by means of a personal computer and using specific graphics software including GIMP©, Adobe Photoshop©, Corel DRAW© and others.

Digital paintings are created out of raster, bitmaps and vectors during a complex editing process.

Computer painting is considered by its adepts as generator of entertainment and freedom of expression and by far more permissive to amateurs than any other painting support ever known. Any beginner can paint and erase hundreds of times until succeeding in the perfect shape or color, yet this would be hard to imagine when it comes to canvas or panels. Even though computer painting has become more popular in the last decade, the phenomenon finds its origins in earlier soft attempts, such as the MS Paint program. Technological evolution over the years, though, has contributed to improving image quality and usage accessibility.
